How to play Reaction Test
Objective: Tap the panel the instant it turns green and post the lowest millisecond time you can, because a smaller number wins.
The whole game is one colored panel that you tap. Tap it once while it says 'Reaction Test' to begin. The panel turns red and shows 'Wait for green'. It stays red for a random gap between 1.2 and 4.5 seconds, so you cannot memorize the timing or count it out. Keep your finger or cursor over the panel and watch the color, not the clock. Nothing you do during the red phase helps, so just wait.
When the panel flips to green and shows 'TAP NOW', tap it immediately. The game starts a timer the moment green appears and stops it the moment you tap, then shows the gap in milliseconds. That number is your reaction time for the attempt. Lower is better. The background does not snap to green; it fades in over an 80 millisecond transition, so react to the first hint of green rather than waiting for the fill to finish.
If you tap while the panel is still red, it turns orange and reads 'Too soon'. There is no time penalty and no lost life, but that attempt does not count and is not recorded. Tap the orange panel to arm a fresh red wait and try again. The random delay is regenerated every round, so an early tap on one round tells you nothing about how long the next red phase will last.
After a valid green tap, the panel shows your milliseconds and 'Tap to go again'. Your best time appears at the top and only updates when you beat it, so it always shows your fastest single tap. The 'Recent' line below keeps your last five valid times, newest first, so you can see whether you are getting faster or just guessing. Tap the result panel to start the next round.
Tips and strategy
Do not anticipate
The red wait is randomized between 1.2 and 4.5 seconds every round, so there is no rhythm to lock onto. Guessing produces an orange 'Too soon' that does not count. Wait for the real color flip, then react.
React to the green, not the words
The panel's red-to-green background fades in over an 80 millisecond transition, so watch the whole panel with soft focus and let the color shift trigger your tap. If you fixate on reading the 'TAP NOW' words, you spend time processing text that a peripheral color change would have caught sooner.
Keep the cursor parked
One panel handles everything, so leave your finger resting on it or your cursor hovering over it during the red wait. Moving toward the panel after green appears wastes travel time that counts against your total.
Read the recent line
The 'Recent' row shows your last five valid times. If they climb, you are tensing up or blinking; reset your posture. If four of five cluster tightly, your true reaction speed is that cluster, not your single best.
Frequently asked questions
Is a lower or higher score better?
Lower is better. The number is milliseconds between the panel turning green and your tap, so a smaller number means you reacted faster. The best time at the top only updates when you set a new low, and the game notes that a typical human reaction sits around 200 to 300 milliseconds.
What happens if I tap too early?
The panel turns orange and shows 'Too soon'. The attempt is discarded, not recorded in your recent times, and there is no penalty beyond starting over. Tap the orange panel to arm a new red wait. Because the delay is re-randomized each round, an early tap gives you no clue about the next one.
Why does the red wait feel different every time?
Each round picks a new random delay between 1.2 and 4.5 seconds before green appears. This is deliberate so you cannot count the seconds and pre-load a tap. The variation is the whole point of a reaction test; a fixed delay would measure anticipation instead of true reaction speed.
Are my times saved between visits?
Only your single best time is saved, stored locally in your browser, and it survives closing the page. The 'Recent' list of your last five valid times is kept only for the current session and clears when you reload. Nothing is uploaded; the record lives on your device.
