How to play Flap
Objective: Flap has no ending, so winning means beating the Best score on your device by flying the bird through as many pipe gaps as you can before it hits a pipe, the ceiling, or the floor.
The bird sits at a fixed spot 96 pixels from the left edge and only moves up and down; the pipes scroll toward it at a steady 2.6 pixels per frame. Each tap, click, or press of Space or the Up arrow gives the bird an upward kick, setting its speed to -7.2. Between taps gravity pulls it down, adding 0.5 to its fall speed every frame, so the longer you wait the faster it drops.
Every pipe is 56 pixels wide with a 140-pixel gap you must fly through. Your score goes up by one the moment a pipe's right edge scrolls past the bird's column, not when you tap, so you are rewarded only for clearing the gap cleanly. A new pipe appears roughly every 200 pixels at a random height, so you constantly re-aim up or down as the next opening arrives.
You lose instantly on three things: the top of the bird touching the ceiling, the bottom touching the floor of the 480-pixel-tall board, or any part of the bird overlapping a pipe while its column lines up with that pipe. The bird has a 14-pixel radius, so leave clearance on both sides of the gap. There are no lives and no continues; one hit ends the run.
To begin from the idle screen, tap the board or press Space and the bird drops from the center as gravity takes over. After Game Over, that same tap starts a fresh run with the bird reset to the middle at zero speed; it does not auto-flap, so tap again right away to lift it before it falls to the floor. Your Score shows in amber and your Best in green above the board, saved in your browser so closing the tab keeps it.
Tips and strategy
Tap in a rhythm
Because gravity adds 0.5 every frame after a flap of -7.2, single steady taps hold a near-level line better than bursts. Find a light, even cadence and only break it to climb or dive for the next gap.
Aim for the gap center
The gap is 140 pixels and the bird is 28 across, so you have slack. Target the middle, not the edge. Centering means a mistimed tap on either side still clears, while hugging an edge turns a small error into a crash.
Score clears, not taps
A point registers only when a pipe fully passes the bird's column. Do not relax after squeezing through; keep flying level until the pipe is behind you, then immediately read the next gap's height and adjust before it reaches you.
Respect the ceiling
Touching the top ends the run just like the floor does. When a gap sits high, resist over-flapping; a single kick lifts the bird a long way, and stacked taps near the rim will bump the ceiling before the pipe arrives.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a way to win or a final level?
No. Flap runs endlessly with pipes at a constant 2.6-pixel scroll speed and a fixed 140-pixel gap. There is no timer, no boss, and no finish line. The only goal is to push your Score higher and beat the Best number shown in green above the board.
Does the game get faster as I score more?
It does not. The scroll speed, gap size, and pipe width never change during a run. What makes long runs hard is sustained concentration and the random height of each new gap, which forces constant up-and-down corrections rather than any built-in difficulty ramp.
What controls can I use?
Tap or click anywhere on the board to flap, or press the Space bar or the Up arrow key. All of them do the same thing: one upward kick per press. On the idle or Game Over screen, that same input starts or restarts the run.
Is my best score kept between plays?
Yes. Your highest score is stored in your browser on this device and shown as Best. It survives closing the tab or the browser. It will reset to zero if you clear the site's data, use private browsing, or open the game on a different device or browser.
