How to play Balloon Climb
Objective: Climb as high as you can, measured in metres of altitude, by steering your red balloon left and right to dodge spinning blades and beating your saved best distance.
Your balloon sits fixed near the bottom of the screen and rises automatically, so your only job is horizontal steering. On a touchscreen or with a mouse, drag or move the pointer left and right and the balloon eases smoothly toward wherever you point. On a keyboard, the left arrow or A nudges you 40 pixels left and the right arrow or D nudges you 40 pixels right. The balloon cannot leave the play field, staying clamped 22 pixels from either edge.
Altitude is your score. It ticks up every frame based on your current climb speed, shown as metres in the top-right corner along with your best run below it. You start at climb speed 2, and the speed grows slowly with height, reaching its cap once you pass roughly 660 metres. There is no finish line and no timer. The run only ends when you crash, so every metre you survive adds to the number you are trying to beat.
Spinning three-point blades drop from the top and are the only thing that ends your run. Touching one triggers an instant crash and saves your altitude if it beats your record. Blades appear at random gaps of about 40 to 70 frames, and that gap shrinks the higher you climb, so the sky gets busier over time. Blades also fall faster than you rise, moving at your climb speed plus 1.2, which gives you a little reaction window as each one enters.
Gold coins marked with a dollar sign fall alongside the blades, spawning less often at gaps of 80 to 150 frames. Flying into one adds it to your coin count in the top-left. Coins are pure bonus collection: they are tracked separately from altitude and never affect your speed, your record, or whether you crash. Chase them when the path is clear, but never swing into a blade for one, because altitude is the only thing that sets your best.
Tips and strategy
Steer to gaps, not coins
Your best score is altitude, and only blades kill you. Read the blades first and pick the widest clear lane. Treat coins as a detour you take only when no blade sits between you and the pickup on the way there.
Hold the centre
The balloon is clamped 22 pixels from each wall, so drifting to an edge cuts off one escape direction. Idle near the middle when the screen is empty. From there you can cut left or right the instant a blade commits to a side.
Small keyboard nudges
Each arrow or A and D press moves the target only 40 pixels, and the balloon eases in gradually. For fine dodges tap once and let it settle. For a hard sidestep tap several times fast rather than holding and overshooting into the next blade.
Plan for the crowding
Blade spawn gaps shrink as you climb, tightening most past a few hundred metres. Once the screen fills, stop reaching for coins and steer conservatively. Surviving the busy stretch banks far more altitude than any coin cluster is worth.
Blades fall faster than you rise
A blade descends at your climb speed plus 1.2, so it closes on your fixed row quickly. Commit to a side while a blade is still high, not when it reaches your altitude line, or the ease-in steering will not carry you clear in time.
Frequently asked questions
How do I win Balloon Climb?
There is no win screen or finish line. It is an endless climber, so success means pushing your altitude in metres higher than your saved best. Every run ends in a crash eventually; the goal is simply to reach a bigger number than last time, shown as BEST under your current altitude.
What ends my run?
Only touching a spinning blade. The moment a blade overlaps your balloon you crash instantly, the run stops, and your altitude is saved if it beat your record. Nothing else can end a run: there is no timer, no fuel gauge, and clouds and coins are completely harmless to fly through.
Do coins increase my score?
No. Coins are counted separately in the top-left and shown on the crash screen, but they do not raise your altitude, change your climb speed, or affect your best record. They are optional collectibles for a personal side goal, so never risk hitting a blade just to grab one.
Does the game get harder as I climb?
Yes, in two ways. Your climb speed rises with altitude and caps out around 660 metres, and the gap between blade spawns shrinks the higher you go, so blades appear more frequently. Together that means the sky grows more crowded and reaction windows tighten the longer you survive.
Is my highest altitude saved?
Yes. Your highest altitude is stored in your browser's local storage under this game, so it persists between visits on the same device and browser. It is not synced to an account or the cloud, so clearing your browser data or switching devices will reset the best score you see.
How do I steer the balloon?
Steering only. Drag or move your pointer left and right and the balloon follows toward that spot. On a keyboard, left arrow or A moves left and right arrow or D moves right, each in a 40 pixel step. The balloon rises on its own, so you never control vertical movement.
