Can AI Make a Logo?

AI image tools like Midjourney and DALL-E can generate visually impressive graphics, but logos have specific requirements that these tools struggle with. A good logo needs to be simple, scalable to any size, work in single color, and communicate a specific brand identity. AI-generated images tend to be too detailed, too artistic, and not suitable for reproduction at small sizes.

The biggest practical issue is that AI outputs are raster images (pixels), not vector files (SVG or AI format). Professional logos must be vector-based so they can scale from a favicon to a billboard without losing quality. You would need to manually trace and recreate the AI output in a vector editor, which undermines much of the time savings.

Text in logos is another weak point. AI image generators notoriously struggle with rendering text correctly, often producing misspelled or garbled letterforms. For a logo that includes your company name, this is a dealbreaker without significant post-editing.

That said, AI is genuinely useful for logo exploration and mood boarding. You can quickly generate dozens of concepts to identify directions you like, then hand those references to a designer or recreate them properly in a tool like Illustrator.
