About the Add Text on Image

Add Text on Image puts editable captions, titles, and watermarks directly onto a picture you already have. You upload a photo, type your words, and drag them where they belong. It solves the small problem of needing text baked into an image for a thumbnail, a meme, or a signed screenshot, without opening Photoshop. The result downloads as a finished PNG or JPG you can post anywhere.

You drop or select an image up to 20 MB (PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and HEIC are accepted). The picture is drawn onto an HTML canvas and one text layer appears reading 'Your Text'. You edit that layer's words, pick one of five fonts, set the size from 1 to 500 pixels, choose a fill color and an outline color, adjust outline width and opacity, and toggle bold or italic. Drag the dashed box to reposition, drag a corner handle to resize.

The whole thing runs in your browser. Your image is loaded with a local object URL and never uploaded to a server, so a private screenshot or an unreleased design stays on your machine. There is no sign-up, no watermark added to your output, and no export cap. You can stack several text layers with the Add button, then download the flattened image at its original pixel dimensions.

How to use the Add Text on Image

  1. 1Drag an image onto the upload box or tap it to pick a file (PNG, JPG, WebP up to 20 MB).
  2. 2Type your words into the text field to replace the default 'Your Text'.
  3. 3Pick a font from Arial, Georgia, Courier New, Impact, or Times New Roman, then set the size with the slider or the pixel number box.
  4. 4Set the Color and Outline swatches, adjust the outline and opacity sliders, and toggle B for bold or I for italic.
  5. 5Drag the text to move it, drag a corner handle to resize, or press + Add for another layer.
  6. 6Click the PNG or JPG button in the top toolbar to download the finished image.

What you can use it for

Watermark a photo

Put your studio name across a proof before sending it to a client. Lower the opacity slider so the mark reads clearly without hiding the image, and use the outline so it stays legible over both light and dark areas.

Meme and thumbnail text

Set the Impact font, a white fill, and a thick black outline for the classic caption look. Add one layer near the top and one near the bottom, then export a PNG sized to your screenshot for a video thumbnail.

Label a screenshot

Annotate a screenshot with a title or callout before sharing it in a doc or chat. Because the file never leaves your browser, you can caption an internal dashboard or a private mockup without uploading it anywhere.

Quote graphics

Drop a quote or event date onto a background photo. Use a large layer for the headline and a smaller one for the detail, match the colors to the image, and download a shareable JPG.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded when I add a caption to it?

No. The file is read locally through a browser object URL and rendered on a canvas on your device, and the download is generated in the browser. Nothing is sent anywhere, so you can caption private screenshots, unreleased artwork, or client proofs without them leaving your computer.

Which fonts can I use?

Five built-in options: Arial, Georgia, Courier New, Impact, and Times New Roman. These are system fonts, so the exact rendering depends on your device having them. There is no custom font upload, so if you need a specific brand typeface, this tool is not the right fit.

Can I add more than one line of text?

You can add several separate layers with the + Add button, each with its own font, size, color, and position. Each layer is a single line, though; the text field does not wrap onto multiple lines, so for a paragraph you would stack several layers by hand.

What formats can I export?

PNG or JPG. PNG is lossless and keeps sharp edges, which suits watermarks and crisp captions. JPG is saved at 92 percent quality for a smaller file that works well on photos. Either way the image exports at its original pixel dimensions, not the smaller on-screen preview.

Is there a limit on the image size I can caption?

Uploads are capped at 20 MB, and anything larger shows an error asking for a smaller file. There is no cap on output resolution beyond that: the download renders at the source image's full width and height, so a large photo produces a large finished image.

Does it cost anything or require an account?

No. The tool is free, there is no sign-up, and no watermark is added to your exported image. You can add text and download as many images as you want.
