About the Resume Builder

The Resume Builder turns a set of form fields into a formatted, single-page resume you can save as PDF. Instead of fighting margins and tab stops in a word processor, you fill in your name, contact details, work history, education, skills, and languages, and the layout is handled for you. A live preview on the right shows the finished A4 page updating as you type, so there is no guessing about how the export will look.

Every edit and the final PDF export are produced in your browser. As you edit, the tool writes your draft to localStorage under the key resume-builder-draft, so if you close the tab and return, your work reloads automatically. Work experience and education are separate cards you can add, delete, and reorder with up and down arrows. Description lines that start with a dash or asterisk render as bullet points. Clicking Download PDF builds a clean HTML page and opens your browser's print dialog.

There is no account, no email wall, and no upload step. Your phone number and job history never leave your machine, because the tool has no server that receives them. It is free, and since the draft lives in local storage rather than a database, the only copy of your data is the one in front of you. Use it when you want a tidy resume fast without signing up for a subscription resume site.

How to use the Resume Builder

  1. 1Pick a look from the Template thumbnails: Classic, Modern, or Bold, which change the accent color of headings and dividers.
  2. 2Open Personal Information and fill in name, job title, email, phone, city, country, and optional LinkedIn and portfolio links.
  3. 3Add roles under Work Experience, set the start and end month and year, tick 'I currently work here' for ongoing jobs, and write each achievement on its own line starting with a dash for bullets.
  4. 4Fill in Education, type each skill into the Skills box and press Enter to make a removable chip, and optionally add Languages with a proficiency level.
  5. 5Reorder entries with the up and down arrows, and remove any card with the X button.
  6. 6Click Download PDF, allow the pop-up if prompted, then choose Save as PDF in your browser's print dialog.

What you can use it for

Fast first draft

You need a resume by tonight for a deadline. Fill the form, watch the A4 preview build in real time, and export a clean PDF in one sitting without wrestling a word processor's formatting quirks or paying for a template.

Tailoring per application

You want a version that leads with the most relevant role. Use the up and down arrows to reorder experience entries and trim the summary, then export. Your full draft stays saved for the next tailored version.

Consistent formatting

You keep breaking your resume's alignment when editing it in Word. Here the layout is fixed by the template, so editing text never shifts margins, fonts, or spacing, and every export lands as the same tidy single page.

Privacy-sensitive editing

You would rather not hand your phone number and work history to an online resume service. This tool keeps the data in your own browser storage with no upload, so you can build and export without creating an account.

Why it prints instead of generating a file directly

Rather than assembling a PDF byte by byte, the tool writes a self-contained HTML document with an @page rule set to A4 and half-inch margins, then calls the browser's own print function. Your browser's PDF engine does the rendering. This keeps the tool small, avoids shipping a heavy PDF library, and makes the exported file match exactly what you see on screen.

The trade-off is that the export depends on a pop-up window opening. If a pop-up blocker stops it, you get an alert asking you to allow pop-ups and nothing is saved until you retry. The generated HTML also escapes characters like ampersands and angle brackets, so text such as R&D appears correctly rather than breaking the page markup.

Frequently asked questions

Does my resume data get uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser. Your draft is saved only to localStorage under the key resume-builder-draft, and the PDF is produced locally through your browser's print dialog. No server receives your name, contact details, or work history, so the only copy is the one on your own device.

How does the Download PDF button work?

It builds an HTML version of your resume, opens it in a new window, and triggers your browser's print dialog, where you choose Save as PDF as the destination. Because it opens a pop-up, allow pop-ups for this site if your browser blocks it, or you will see a blocked message and no dialog.

Will my work survive if I close the tab?

Yes, as long as you reopen it in the same browser on the same device. The draft auto-saves to that browser's local storage and reloads when you return. It does not sync across browsers or devices, and clearing browser data or using private browsing will lose it.

How do I get bullet points in a description?

Start each line with a dash or an asterisk. In the Description box, put every achievement on its own line beginning with '- ', and the preview and PDF render it as a bulleted list. Lines without a leading dash or asterisk appear as plain paragraphs, so you can mix both.

Can I remove every experience or education entry?

No. The remove X button only appears when a section has more than one card, so at least one experience block and one education block always remain. If you leave a card's fields blank it is simply skipped and never shows up in the preview or export.

What are the template differences?

Classic, Modern, and Bold share the same layout and sections. They differ only in the accent color used for your name, section headings, and the divider line: Classic is navy, Modern is teal, and Bold is purple. Skill chips pick up a light tint of the same accent.
