About the QR Code Generator

This QR Code Generator turns a link, a block of text, WiFi login details, an email draft, or a phone number into a scannable QR code you can download or copy. Instead of reading a long URL or WiFi password aloud, you show one square image and let a phone camera do the rest, whether it goes on a poster, a flyer, or the side of a router.

Pick one of five input tabs: URL, Text, WiFi, Email, or Phone. Each builds the correct payload for you. WiFi wraps your SSID, password, and encryption type into the standard WIFI: format, escaping semicolons, commas, and quotes so odd passwords still parse. Email builds a mailto link with URL-encoded subject and body. The preview redraws about 300 milliseconds after you stop typing.

The tool is free, needs no signup, and runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded; the image is drawn with a JavaScript library on your own machine. That matters for the WiFi and email tabs, where you handle a password or message body. You can set colors, size the code from 200 to 600 pixels, and download a PNG or a crisp SVG.

How to use the QR Code Generator

  1. 1Choose an input type from the URL, Text, WiFi, Email, or Phone tabs.
  2. 2Fill in that tab's fields, such as the URL box, or the SSID, Password, and Encryption Type for WiFi.
  3. 3Set the Foreground Color and Background Color with the two color pickers.
  4. 4Drag the Size slider to a width from 200 to 600 pixels.
  5. 5Pick an Error Correction Level, L, M, Q, or H, to control how much damage the code tolerates.
  6. 6Click PNG or SVG to download, or Copy to place the PNG on your clipboard.

What you can use it for

Guest WiFi card

Enter your network name, password, and encryption type on the WiFi tab, then print the code and tape it to the fridge. Guests point their camera at it and join without you reading out a twenty-character password aloud.

Poster or flyer link

Paste your event page or signup URL, match the foreground color to your brand, and download the SVG. Because SVG stays sharp at any size, it prints clean on an A3 poster or a business card.

Contact by tap

Use the Phone tab to encode your number as a tel link, or the Email tab to prefill a subject and body. A scan opens the dialer or a ready-to-send draft, cutting manual typing at a booth or name badge.

How error correction keeps codes readable

QR codes carry more data than the content needs, and the extra bytes are Reed-Solomon error correction. The encoder spreads redundant information across the pattern so a scanner can rebuild the message even when some modules are missing or misread. The four levels trade capacity for resilience: L reserves roughly 7 percent for recovery, while H reserves about 30 percent.

A higher level survives more damage, which is why a logo can sit over the center of a code: the correction data reconstructs what it covers. The cost is density. Raising the level packs more modules into the same content, so each square shrinks at a fixed size. For small or rough-printed codes, choose Q or H and increase the size.

Frequently asked questions

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. The QR code is generated in your browser with a JavaScript library, and none of your input is uploaded to a server. Your WiFi password, email text, and phone number never leave your device, so it is safe for sensitive network credentials.

What formats can I download?

Two. The PNG button saves a raster image named qrcode.png at the size set by the slider. The SVG button saves qrcode.svg, a vector that scales to any size without blurring, better for print. The Copy button places the PNG on your clipboard as an image.

What do the L, M, Q, and H levels mean?

They set error correction, the redundancy that lets a code still scan when part of it is dirty or damaged. L recovers about 7 percent, M about 15, Q about 25, and H about 30. Higher levels make the pattern denser but more forgiving of scratches.

Why won't a code appear when I first open a tab?

The generator ignores placeholder-only input. If the URL box holds just https:// with nothing after it, or the phone and email fields are empty, no code is drawn and the preview shows a prompt. Type real content after the prefix and the code appears.

Can I change the colors and size?

Yes. Two color pickers set the foreground modules and the background, and a slider sizes the code from 200 to 600 pixels. Keep strong contrast, dark on light, because scanners rely on that difference. For print, download the SVG, since a vector stays sharp at any size.
